----- Your wedding date has been finalised.
Now let the flurries of excitement that come with wedding planning begin! But with so much to do and so little time to ensure detailed perfection for your big day, where does one even start?
Here is a neat little month-by-month checklist to provide some insight about what you should doing when as the clock embarks on its countdown.
11 months before
• Start researching! Gather together some wedding inspirations
• Plan out your budget
• Pick out your bridesmaids and groomsmen
• Begin organising your guest list
10 months before
• Decide your wedding date
• Reserving banquet venues
• Booking an officiant/solemnizer
• Throw an engagement party
9 months before
• Determine a theme for your reception
• Write a checklist of services that you wish to engage and begin doing some research
• Dress shopping!!! This is to ensure there is enough time for a few dress fittings as well
• Set expectations with your maid of honor and bridesmaids on each person’s responsibility.
8 months before
• Hire photographer/ videographer
• Book in the band entertainment
• Meet caterers and hire if right
• Create a wedding website so your guests are kept up to date with relevant information
• Reserve some hotel rooms close to reception venue for guests that had to travel a fair distance just so they could be present at your wedding
7 months before
• Go for first gown fitting
• Hire hair & makeup artist
• Purchase of wedding rings
• Start planning and preparing for honeymoon ensuring passports are up-to-date and necessary vaccinations are scheduled
• Shopping time for bridesmaids' dresses!!
6 months before
• Deciding on the design of your invitations and making the purchase
• Book florist
• Reserve any necessities such tables, chairs, lightings, canopy
• Purchase your wedding shoes
5 months before
• Choose and order your wedding cake
• Make appointments with hair and makeup artists for trial session
• Choose music playlist
• Purchase bridal accessories such as jewelry, veil, hair accessories and etc.
• Book a rehearsal and a rehearsal dinner at your venues to test out menus
4 months before
• Arrange for transports
• Purchase undergarments and your second fitting can be made here
• Write out a schedule detailing what's happening at what time for the day of your wedding
• Have a meeting with the officiant to run through the ceremony as well as confirming any official documents
3 months before
• Finalise the banquet menu and the flowers
• Purchase or fitting for groom’s formal wear
• Finalise the schedule of events for your ceremony and your reception.
• Send out invitation cards
2 months before
• Order wedding favours
• Confirm guests’ attendance and begin table arrangement
• Purchase attendant’s appreciation gifts
• Enjoy bachelorette party
1 month before
• Get marriage certificate
• Purchase of alcohol and Stock up the bar
• Write your vows
• Have your last wedding dress fitting
• Finalise the delivery time of flowers
• Phone up those who have not RSVPed and just know who is or isn't coming. Know how many people to expect
1 week before
•Finalise seating arrangement for guests
•Pick up your dress
•Book a time for hair & Facial treatment, manicures and pedicures, and maybe squeeze in that well deserved massage
•Send out final guest list to all your venues and caterers
•Reconfirm with vendors the arrival times
•Set aside cash or cheque in envelopes to pay vendors at the end of event
•Pack up to get ready for your wedding and honeymoon
Wedding planning can be stressful, but it doesn't have to be if you remember that there are so many people around you who are working their magic. So don't rush, sit back, relax, organise what you have to do on a monthly basis and watch it all come together like a jigsaw puzzle.
